Break that fitness hiatus
November 2nd, 2009 | Published in Get Focused
You haven’t exercised in a while…
or maybe it’s been longer than “a while.”
All you know is, your body is telling you louder and louder with each passing day that you need to move. And with each passing day, that voice in your head gets a little meaner about the fact that you STILL haven’t gotten back to your routine.
Stop beating yourself up.
You know how well berating yourself works to motivate you. And more importantly, you do not deserve that kind of treatment from anyone – including your alter ego.
There is always a chance and a choice to start anew. You can always decide that today is the day – make that decision and then do it.
3 tips to get moving again:
1. No one can truly kick your butt into gear but you. You need to decide that you’re going to do this, and then you’ve got to follow through. Simple as that.
Decide how much you can realistically do in a week and commit to that – commit to it and stick to it.
2. Give yourself a break. Don’t get all gung ho and start training for a marathon right out of the gate. Start smaller – try 30 minutes, 3 times a week. That’s all you need to do to start feeling great again.
3. Do not let anything stop you. Set those appointments in stone. If you skip it, it’s on you. I agree that there are times when life gets in the way. But, if you skip a workout, look at the REAL reason you’re skipping it. Be honest with yourself, and make the choice to boldly skip it and be fine with that, or, suck it up and get to it.
And, if you do make the choice to skip it, don’t turn around and beat yourself up for it – take responsibility for that choice.
Now get going!
