Go Easy On Yourself

I’m tired today.
I’ve got a ton to do… I need to write this blog post, I need to work on my e-zine that’s going out Monday, I need to finish the sales page for the Break Your Fitness Hiatus Course… all heavy-duty, big-time-thinking work.
But I’m so tired.
I started the day pushing myself. Trying to give myself the pep talk that I KNOW my mother would give me on those days I didn’t feel like going to school.
But that wasn’t working. Because my mother talking to me in that tone never worked, so why would it work for me to talk to me like that?
So I’m taking a different approach. I’m going easy on myself.
I’m nurturing myself. I’m recognizing that my body and mind just can’t push today.
The problem is – I’m so not good at not pushing myself. So the pushing and the nudging and the berrating comes back all too easily.
Tips to nurturing yourself when it just doesn’t come easily:
1. Slow Down. If you’re anything like me – this is next to impossible. But when your energy is low, you just don’t have a choice. Think about it – if you go barreling through your day in this state of mind, you’re bound to make mistakes, be more clumsy than usual, and mentally a little foggier.
Do the best ya can to just take it slow, and be better able to handle things one at a time.
2. Watch your self-talk. It’s so easy if you’re driven and high-energy to beat yourself up when you’re feeling “off.” When you catch youself pushing, just take a deep breath and ease off. Find something positive to tell yourself. Take another deep breath. Find something else nice to say to yourself. Take another deep breath and then move on with whatever it is that you’re doing.
3. Rest as soon as you can. Get done what you need to get done and then sit your fanny down and relax. Don’t push to do more than you have to.
We spend so much time driving, pushing and doing. No wonder we’re just tired sometimes!
When you feel more drained than usual, be more nurturing on yourself than usual… come to think of it, make it a habit to be more nurturing to yourself every day :)
