Moving Muse: When you NEED a solution…

Have you ever had those moments where, you’re looking for a solution to a problem, but you just can’t find one?
You want a certain thing to turn out a certain way, but no matter what you try, or what you think of, for some reason, nothing seems to work.
I’m in such a quandry right this very second. It’s nothing huge, I know the solution is there… it’s just my mind keeps spinning and blocking the solution from making itself known.
One second I’m thinking about how much of a pain it is that I can’t think of a solution. Then I’m stressing that I won’t find a solution. Then I’m running through different scenarios. Then, I try really hard to think of a solution… this endless mind-loop gets very tiring.
So, what I’m going to do to figure this out is, forget about it.
Yep – that’s right. Take some time off from thinking about the issue. Some people call this “turning it over to God” or “allowing” the solution to come to you. Whatever you call it, it’s way less frustrating than banging your head against the wall.
Now, I’m not going to kid you – forgetting about the problem is definitely not easy for me to do. In fact, I’m positive that I am the Queen of Obsessing and Stressing Over Something That I Can’t Figure Out.
Here’s what I’m going to do to do my best to turn it over:
1. Yoga. There is a great yoga class in one of our local parks, so I will be heading over there. Nothing like getting yourself out of your environment, and having to focus on something else for a while to make a solution appear.
2. I’m going to talk it out loud. Actually – I already did this. Thanks to hubby for being a great sounding board. No solution yet – but at least the issue is outside of me and someone else knows about it. So as new ideas come up, I can continue to bounce them off.
3. Go about my day. I do have other things to do today other than stress and obsess over this one small thing. So, I’m gonig to do my best to take the focus off the problem and put it on whatever else needs to be done.
Whenever I’m stuck like this I know one absolute thing to be true – as soon as I’m able to completely let go of the problem, sink into some other activity and truly get my mind off of it, the solution really does appear – simply and easily.
What helps you when you’re stuck needing a solution?
