Snack of the Week: Self-Made Trail Mix

I have heard your pleas for snack ideas!

One of the things people ask me about most often is healthy snack ideas. So, I’ve started this handy-dandy Wednesday blog series: Jenn’s Snack of the Week. Check here on Wednesdays for some healthy snack ideas. And please, feel free to share your own!

Trail Mix = Endless Possibilities

Recently, my turn-to snack has been self-made trail mix. You can’t believe how easy it is to make this stuff. It’s literally throwing ingredients in a baggie.

My favorite ingredients include: dried apricots, raisins, dried cranberries, dried apples, almonds, walnuts, cashews, coconut shreds (the big ones, not the tiny ones intended for baking), dark chocolate chips (just a few ;) ).

Really, you can make your trail mix with any healthy, clean ingredients you like. When choosing dried fruits (or even veggies), choose those made without sulfates or sugar. Look for raw, unroasted nuts, and keep the granola to a minimum. Granola is great, but it’s carb-heavy.

Keep your portion size to no bigger than 1/4 of a cup and you’re good to go.
