When You’re Out of Your Routine…

When you’re out of your routine, what’s the first thing that suffers?
Nine times out of ten, I bet it’s your diet and your fitness – or anything related to self-care. It’s easy to let that stuff go when you’re getting used to a new routine.
It’s not easy to tell your kids or your spouse to change… it’s just easier to shift your schedule to get everything settled.
It’s back-to-school time here in the Givler house – Maddie just started 2nd Grade today. That means, September is going to be a little crazy as we settle into a new daily routine, a new dance class schedule and a new choir schedule.
Prepare, Prepare, Prepare…
Alright ladies, a little tough love coming at you – there is no reason to let your self-care get thrown by the way-side.
We know these changes in routine are coming. There’s no excuse to let our diet and fitness routines completely go.
Take these steps to make sure you stay on track:
1. Remember, your fitness routine doesn’t have to be shoved into a wacky schedule. You can do 3 ten-minute shots of exercise a different points through your day until you can get back to a normal routine. See the video above for some strength training ideas.
2. Plan your meals and snacks. Make sure you’ve got plenty of to-go snacks on hand. Good choices are trail mix, portable fruits (like apples, bananas, and grapes), and anything from this list. Having things like this available will save you from popping through a drive-through, or hitting the vending machine while running errands or taking the kids to practice.
3. Don’t forget that you must be a priority in your own life. And, when you’re taking care of yourself and doing things that nourish yourself, you’re better able to participate in your own life.

Jenn,
It is so interesting that I came back to your site today. Today was just one of this type of day. I wanted to get some other things done and it seems as if time just FLEW by too fast.
However, I knew I didn’t want my exercise to be dropped out of my schedule. So I did just what you suggested. I picked up my weights and did a small routine for my arms and legs and rounded it up with some jogging in place. Voila I did a 30 minute routine and was able to fit in my exercise for the day.
Thanks Jenn!
